(In case you missed it, I posted new blogs from the 24th and 25th with all our photos, and in the right order!)
today was a DAY!
We did the Grand Canyon in style- decided on a six mile hike and we'd take the shuttle bus back to our car, only to figure out that we'd walked past the last shuttle stop by two miles! :)
But that's ok, because our goals were to see some wildlife and to find a spot where we could see more of the Colorado River than just a little smudge- and we did it!
Right at our six mile stopping point, we had a great view of about two inches (maybe a half mile) of river, and then on our way back to the bus stop, we met a family of five deer right on our trail!
Our first three miles were on pavement and fairly decent... only a few spots of snow/ice in our way.
(we had packed for 70 degree weather, so I was glad I had thrown in some cold weather gear just in case!)
We sometimes got dangerously close to the edge, but everyone was safe!
Our second three miles were ALL in snow/slush.
And by the time we ate our lunch, and turned around to do the last two miles, a lot of that snow had started to melt, so we were slogging our way home in slush.
We were soaked to the knees, tired, and a bit sunburned on the top, but a good time was had by all!
And Weston hiked about 95% of the first six miles!
(only about 10% of the second two miles, but hey, he was a great hiker!)
